Fishers Island Community Center Update

The Community Center is pleased to announce that Sarah Porter, long-time member of the Community Center staff, has been named Director of Operations responsible for membership, programing, and the facility maintenance. Since the opening of the Center, Sarah has been responsible for the membership program, assisted with successful Annual Fund campaigns and has overseen many aspects of the Center’s day-to-day operations. Starting during Liz Burnham’s maternity leave this past spring, Sarah has been indispensable in seamlessly managing our programs, the facility, bookkeeping and overall outreach efforts all while keeping our membership program strong. The Board of the Community Center deeply appreciates Sarah’s hard work and is pleased she to taking on an expanded role going forward. Please congratulate Sarah and thank her for her hard work when you next visit the Community Center.

Additionally, we are pleased Kathleen Neiman has agreed to join the Community Center as Manager of Finance and Administration. Kathleen spent many years in Toronto where she worked for Crawford & Co., the multi-national insurance adjuster. There she held a number of administrative positions involving multi-office coordination, event management, and financial controls. She also has considerable experience with hospitality management and non-profit fundraising. A new year-round resident, Kathleen is married to Ed Neiman, the new Executive Chef at the Big Club.

With Sarah in her expanded role and the addition of Kathleen, the Fishers Island Community Center will continue to work fulfilling its mission to provide cultural, educational, athletic and social activities throughout the year for the benefit all Fishers Island residents and community members. With the addition of massage therapy, Mah Jongg and more painting classes this summer, the Center’s programs and services continue to grow.

As Liz Burnham moves on to devote full time to taking care of her growing family, we also thank Liz for her service as Director and wish her all the best.
